I noticed there was another higher-leveled Pulse Sensor that had suddenly appeared on my HD. Its icon had the regular PS icon, and when I listed my local files in the terminal, its type was a Pulse Sensor. I figured it was a virus because I couldn't delete it, so I ran my AntiVirus, and sure enough, it removed the foreign PS. My question is, how was it disguised as a PulseSensor? Is this an update that I overlooked? Is it a perk given at a certain rank?

That, my friend, was a Trojan virus. You can win those in Faction Wars. Yes, when installed they take the name and Icon of the chosen software to be disguised as. I hoped this helped answer your question :D
